Reports have since claimed the finances involved for the centre-back could total £10m after an initial £6m fee with two separate add-ons.

Should that be the case, the USA international would become the club’s most expensive signing of all time, surpassing a £9.27m fee for Odsonne Edouard.

The Latest: Jones’ claim

Talking to GiveMeSport, Jones believes the centre-back is ‘very keen’ on a permanent Parkhead move and described the potential record transfer as ‘realistic’.

“I think that Carter-Vickers is very keen, because he feels like he can become part of the project there long-term, and I think it’s one that is realistic to be honest.”

This comes after Alex McLeish suggested that qualification for the Champions League could be the deciding factor.

The Verdict: CCV found a permanent home in Glasgow?

Carter-Vickers has been a regular under Ange Postecoglou in what has been an impressive season, with a domestic treble still on the cards.

He has now turned out in green and white on 36 occasions – making more appearances for the Hoops than any other of his seven clubs.

On that basis, you’d like to think he has found a full-time home in Glasgow, but it seems as if Celtic will need to write a big cheque for a player who is valued at just £2.7m by Transfermarkt – could a league title and Champions League qualification be the key factor?
